Hailmann Kindergarten Building

This building was the home of the first Kindergarten program in Indiana and one of the first in the country. Established by Dr. William N. Hailmann, Superintendent of LaPorte Schools from 1883 - 1894, it was a publicly funded program. The school building was located at the northeast corner of Indiana Avenue and Osborn.  A large red brick Queen Anne house stands there now.
