Early automobiles were quite popular as settings for school portraits,
especially when the entire student body of a one-room school could
fit in
and around one. These are the Miller School students of the
1912 - 1913
school year. Agnes Merchant is the teacher. Note the
chains on the back
tires, which were needed as much for negotiating in the muddy roads
as
for traction in the snow.
